Chantra

for solo prepared harp, commissioned by Ian Lim for the Contemporary Music in Action (CMiA) series and premiered at Royal College of Music in 2023

Chantra is a solo prepared harp piece which is generally reflective, yet occasionally ardent in its own language. It is the result of curiosity and close collaboration with the harpist. It is mainly inspired by the sounds of gongs and mantra chanting. The compositional process is also driven by the aim to explore timbres foreign to the instrument and incorporate different colours into the piece
