Unfamiliar Reflections
for 13 performers, showcased at Laban Studio 3 as a part of CoLab festival 2025
What if time denied someone of its once generous gift of utmost value - memories? Deranged on the surrounding turmoil, but oddly tranquil on the inside, like the eye of cyclone, where the time flows discrepantly against the reality, but constantly susceptible to guerrilla attacks of panicking and bewildering episodes - what is the scene of the world of the Alzheimer's people? Reluctance, acquiescence, acceptance: is this the psychological trajectory of the closest people around them over time? How do the two concurrent but conflicting timelines intertwine? This work aims to approach 'Time' in exploring the trail it left deeply embroidered in us, personalised in the form of memories, and evolve around the imaginary realm of an Alzheimer’s mind, subsequently bringing up the forces of music and art that inexorably transcend the void engulfing memories and strive to hold the scattered lost pieces together. Made in collaboration with musicians and dancers from Trinity Laban, USC Kaufman School of Dance and University of Melbourne.
